Community Involvement

David has a strong desire to mentor students and young professionals:

  • David is a member of the Social Justice Committee at The DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church and co-created a mentoring program called the S.M.I.L.E. Project, which stands for Student, Mentor, Internship, with Local Employers. Since the inception of this program, David has mentored high school students in his law office, introducing them to the workforce and to the career of law.
  • He also has been a regular evaluator for the College of DuPage paralegal program and has taken on interns from that program in his law office.
  • Additionally, David is involved in the DCBA Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program were he has taken some younger attorneys under his wing.

In the community:

  • He engages in a variety of community activities from Cub Scouts to coaching tee-ball.
  • David has set up stations in the community offering free legal advice and takes on pro bono cases through DuPage County Legal Aid.
  • He volunteers with Lawyers Lending a Hand at locations such as the DuPage County Convalescent Center, the Ray Graham Project, Glen Ellyn Community Learning Center, the DuPage Children’s Museum, the People’s Resource Center in Wheaton, and the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
  • David ran a charity drive in his office for the LilySarahGrace Fund, which worked to bring art to the classroom. He collected art supplies and donated them to local elementary schools.
  • David has given talks on DUI and domestic battery issues at local churches.

In the legal community:

  • David enjoys judging mock trial competitions and has done so on all levels, including middle school, high school, undergraduate, and law school competitions.
  • He is a member of the DuPage County, Illinois State, and American Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Robert E. Jones American Inns of Court, DuPage County Chapter, where he sits on the executive board as the MCLE Chair.
  • In association with the DuPage County Bar Association, David volunteers with an annual theater production called Judges Night in DuPage, as well as being a member of the DCBA softball team. Both events raise money for DuPage County Legal Aid.
